Role Summary:
As an Endoscopy Nurse at SEHA, you will specialize in assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (e.g., Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP). You will play a critical role in all phases of care: preparing patients, assisting the endoscopist during procedures, managing sedation (in collaboration with the anesthesia team), and providing recovery care. Your ability to explain sensitive procedures clearly in Tagalog is essential for patient comfort and cooperation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Procedure: Assess patients, verify consents, and provide detailed pre-procedure instructions in Tagalog and English. Ensure patient understanding and answer all questions to alleviate anxiety.
- Procedure Room: Prepare and maintain the endoscopy suite, ensuring all specialized equipment (scopes, monitors, biopsy forceps) are available and functioning. Assist the endoscopist by handling instruments, obtaining specimens, and monitoring patient vital signs and sedation.
- Sedation Monitoring: Work closely with the endoscopist/anesthetist to monitor patient under sedation, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Post-Procedure Recovery: Provide vigilant post-anesthesia care in the recovery area, monitoring for complications and managing patient comfort. Provide clear post-procedure discharge instructions in the patient's preferred language.
- Infection Control & Safety: Perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of delicate endoscopes and accessories according to strict international protocols (SGNA/ESGE standards).
- Documentation: Accurately document procedure details, patient response, specimens collected, and care provided.
- Emergency Preparedness: Be proficient in recognizing and responding to endoscopic emergencies (e.g., bleeding, perforation, sedation complications).
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid nursing license & BSN or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an Endoscopy Unit, GI Lab, or related procedural area.
- Fluency in Tagalog and English is mandatory.
- Experience with sedation monitoring (Conscious Sedation) is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of endoscope handling, reprocessing, and troubleshooting is a strong advantage.
- Meticulous attention to detail, sterility, and safety protocols.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient in a fast-paced procedural environment.
