Role Summary:
As an Operating Theatre Nurse at SEHA, you will be an integral part of the surgical team, responsible for providing sterile, efficient, and safe care to patients before, during, and after surgery. You will perform either as a Scrub Nurse (managing the sterile field and instruments) or a Circulating Nurse (managing the overall nursing care in the OR). Your role requires precision, vigilance, and the ability to provide reassurance to anxious patients in Tagalog during the pre-operative phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Operative: Perform comprehensive patient assessments, verify surgical site and consent, and provide compassionate pre-operative teaching in Tagalog and English to alleviate patient anxiety.
- Intra-Operative (Scrub): Prepare the sterile field, anticipate and pass instruments/ supplies to the surgeon, handle specimens, and maintain strict aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
- Intra-Operative (Circulating): Manage the overall nursing care in the OR suite, assist with patient positioning, coordinate with other departments, document the procedure, and procure additional supplies.
- Post-Operative: Assist in transferring the patient to the Recovery Room (PACU), provide a thorough handover to the PACU nurse, and ensure the OR is prepared for the next case.
- Instrumentation & Safety: Account for all surgical instruments, needles, and sponges. Operate and troubleshoot OR equipment. Uphold WHO Surgical Safety Checklist protocols.
- Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical techs, and other staff in a high-pressure environment.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid nursing license & BSN or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a main Operating Theatre/OR in an acute care hospital.
- Fluency in Tagalog and English is mandatory.
- Certification in Perioperative Nursing or equivalent training is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and sterile processing.
- Ability to stand for long periods and respond quickly in dynamic situations.
- Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to patient safety.
