Specialist Gastroenterologist
Location: Sohar City, Oman
Salary: 2,300 OMR per month (Full package, potentially including housing allowance)
Contract Type: Full-time, typically 2-3 years renewable
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Gastroenterologist to join a leading hospital or medical center in Sohar. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert diagnostic, therapeutic, and endoscopic care for patients with a wide range of digestive system disorders. A commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Diagnose and manage complex gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and biliary diseases.
- Perform and interpret a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including but not limited to:
- Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy
- Polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopopancreatography (ERCP) - if credentialed
- Capsule endoscopy
- Esophageal and bowel manometry - if available
- Manage inpatients and outpatients, providing consultations and follow-up care.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on the latest clinical guidelines.
- Work closely with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and dietitians for comprehensive patient management.
Administrative & Professional Duties:
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records.
- Participate in hospital/clinic committees, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical audits.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, residents, and nurses.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, Omani medical regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., MOH, JCI).
- Participate in on-call schedules as required.
Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Arab Board, American Board, Canadian Fellowship (FRCPC), UK CCT, or equivalent Western/recognized postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology.
- Valid medical license to practice as a Specialist Gastroenterologist from the home country.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of post-specialization experience in a busy gastroenterology department.
- Proficiency in performing advanced endoscopic procedures independently.
- Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are a significant advantage.
Desirable:
- Experience working in the Gulf region (GCC).
- Sub-specialty interest or training in Hepatology, Advanced Endoscopy, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
- Strong record of research and publications.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
