Heavy Vehicle Mechanic – Job Description
A Heavy Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses, trailers, construction equipment, and commercial vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical faults in heavy vehicles and equipment
- Repair and service diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and hydraulic systems
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing
- Use diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment
- Replace damaged or worn mechanical parts
- Conduct engine overhauls and component repairs
- Maintain service records and repair documentation
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and workshop procedures
- Test vehicles after repairs to confirm proper operation
- Assist in breakdown and emergency repair work when required
