Piping Engineer – Job Description
Job Title: Piping Engineer

Reports To: Lead Piping Engineer / Engineering Manager / Project Manager
Job Summary
A Piping Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, installation, testing, and maintenance of piping systems used in industries such as oil & gas, petrochemicals, power plants, water treatment, manufacturing, and construction. The role ensures that piping systems meet project specifications, safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory codes.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design
- Develop piping layouts, routing studies, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Prepare piping specifications, material requisitions, and technical documents.
- Perform pipe sizing calculations, pressure drop analysis, and stress analysis.
- Review P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and equipment layouts.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable codes.
Project Execution
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
- Support procurement activities by reviewing vendor documents and technical bids.
- Monitor installation activities and provide technical guidance during construction.
- Resolve engineering and site-related issues.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as:
- ASME
- API
- ANSI
- ISO
- Participate in inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Review welding procedures and quality documentation.
Construction & Site Support
- Conduct site inspections and progress reviews.
- Verify piping installations against approved drawings.
- Support hydrostatic testing, flushing, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure safety requirements are followed during construction.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare engineering calculations and technical reports.
- Review isometric drawings and material take-offs (MTOs).
- Maintain project documentation and revision records.
- Submit progress reports and engineering deliverables on schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3–10+ years of experience in piping engineering, depending on role level.
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, power, EPC, or industrial projects.
