Job Description: Commercial Manager – Shipyard Operations
Job Summary
The Commercial Manager – Shipyard Operations is responsible for overseeing all commercial, contractual, and financial aspects of shipyard projects. The role focuses on maximizing profitability, managing contracts, negotiating with clients and suppliers, and ensuring effective cost control across ship repair, maintenance, and fabrication operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial activities related to shipyard operations, including ship repair, maintenance, and new build projects.
- Develop pricing strategies, cost estimates, and commercial proposals for clients.
- Review, negotiate, and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Ensure proper cost control, budgeting, and financial monitoring of ongoing projects.
- Analyze project profitability, revenue, and cost performance.
- Prepare tender documents, bids, and commercial submissions for new projects.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure alignment on commercial terms.
- Handle claims, variations, change orders, and contractual disputes.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, shipping companies, and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company policies.
- Monitor market trends in ship repair, marine services, and offshore industries.
- Prepare commercial reports and forecasts for senior management.
- Support business development activities and identify new revenue opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- 8–15 years of experience in commercial management within shipyard, marine, or offshore industries.
- Strong knowledge of ship repair, dry-docking, and marine engineering operations.
- Experience in contract management (FIDIC or similar frameworks preferred).
- Strong financial and cost analysis skills.
