Job Description: Estimation Manager – Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering
Job Summary
The Estimation Manager – Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is responsible for leading the estimation and cost control function for shipbuilding, offshore structures, and marine engineering projects. The role involves preparing accurate cost estimates, bid proposals, and technical-commercial submissions while ensuring competitiveness, profitability, and compliance with client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and marine fabrication projects.
- Review tender documents, specifications, drawings, and client requirements for accurate estimation.
- Develop man-hour calculations, material take-offs, and cost breakdown structures.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and production teams to gather inputs for estimates.
- Prepare and submit competitive bids, proposals, and tender documentation.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations for cost optimization.
- Evaluate project risks, contingencies, and commercial assumptions.
- Support negotiation of contracts and commercial terms with clients.
- Maintain historical cost data and benchmark pricing for future estimations.
- Monitor market trends in shipbuilding, offshore oil & gas, and marine sectors.
- Ensure compliance with tender deadlines and client submission requirements.
- Lead and mentor estimation engineers and support staff.
- Present estimation reports and bid strategies to senior management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 8–15 years of experience in estimation or cost engineering in shipbuilding or offshore industries.
- Strong knowledge of ship construction, offshore structures, and marine fabrication processes.
- Experience in tendering, bidding, and commercial proposal preparation.
- Proficiency in estimation tools, MS Excel, and ERP/project costing systems.
