Job Summary
The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective project execution. The role involves preparing project plans, tracking progress, analyzing schedule performance, identifying potential risks and delays, and coordinating with project teams to ensure milestones are achieved. The Planning Engineer plays a key role in supporting project delivery through effective planning, reporting, and resource coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed project schedules and work breakdown structures (WBS) based on project scope and timelines.
- Prepare baseline schedules, project execution plans, and milestone tracking reports.
- Monitor project progress and compare actual performance against planned schedules.
- Update project schedules regularly and prepare progress reports for management and clients.
- Identify schedule risks, delays, and critical path activities, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and construction teams to ensure project activities are aligned.
- Prepare resource loading plans, manpower histograms, and equipment utilization schedules.
- Monitor procurement and material delivery schedules to support project execution.
- Conduct schedule analysis using Critical Path Method (CPM) and other planning techniques.
- Support cost control by coordinating planning activities with project budgets and forecasts.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide schedule performance updates.
- Maintain project documentation, planning records, and change logs.
- Assist in preparing recovery schedules and mitigation plans for delayed activities.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, client requirements, and project management methodologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 3–7 years of experience in project planning and scheduling within construction, engineering, infrastructure, manufacturing, or industrial projects.
- Experience using project planning and scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of project management principles and scheduling methodologies.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent scheduling software.
- Strong knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM), resource planning, and project scheduling.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project reporting tools.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and project specifications.
- Effective communication and coordination skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong reporting and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Project Management (PMP), Primavera P6, or Planning & Scheduling is an advantage.
- Experience in EPC, infrastructure, oil & gas, manufacturing, or large-scale construction projects.
- Knowledge of earned value management (EVM), project controls, and risk management.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle is desirable.
