Job Summary
The SENCO is responsible for identifying, coordinating, and supporting children with special educational needs and ensuring they receive appropriate learning support within the nursery environment. The role involves working closely with teachers, parents, specialists, and management to create inclusive learning opportunities and promote every child’s development.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and assess children who may require additional learning support.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with special educational needs.
- Coordinate support strategies with teachers, parents, and external specialists.
- Monitor children’s progress and evaluate the effectiveness of support plans.
- Provide guidance and training to teachers and classroom assistants on inclusive practices.
- Ensure the nursery follows policies and procedures related to special education and child development.
- Work closely with parents to discuss children’s needs, progress, and support strategies.
- Liaise with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other professionals when required.
- Maintain accurate records, assessments, and documentation related to SEN children.
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children.
- Support teachers in adapting activities and teaching methods to meet individual needs.
- Stay updated with UAE early years education regulations and SEN practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- SENCO certification or relevant special education training is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children with special educational needs in a nursery, preschool, or school environment.
- Knowledge of child development, learning difficulties, and inclusion strategies.
- Familiarity with UAE education guidelines and safeguarding practices is an advantage.
