Position: Quantity Surveyor – Trainee
Department: Projects / Estimation
Reports To: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager
Job Summary
The Quantity Surveyor – Trainee assists the Quantity Surveying team in estimating project costs, preparing quantity take-offs, monitoring project expenses, and supporting contract administration. This role provides practical training in cost control, budgeting, and commercial management within construction or engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Support the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Help estimate material, labor, and equipment costs for projects.
- Assist in preparing quotations and tender documents.
- Monitor project costs and maintain cost records.
- Support the preparation of interim valuations and payment applications.
- Verify subcontractor measurements and invoices.
- Maintain project documentation, reports, and cost databases.
- Coordinate with project engineers, procurement, and site teams.
- Attend site visits to verify measurements and monitor project progress.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Senior Quantity Surveyor or Project Manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 1 year of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of construction methods and quantity surveying principles.
Skills & Competencies
- Basic knowledge of BOQ preparation and quantity take-offs.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of estimation software is an advantage.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
Preferred
- Internship or academic project experience in construction or engineering.
- Knowledge of FIDIC contracts is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Odoo) is a plus.
