Job Description – Safety Officer (Construction)
Position: Safety Officer
Job Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies to ensure a safe working environment at construction sites. The role focuses on preventing accidents, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company safety standards, and promoting a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and safety programs on site.
- Conduct daily site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Ensure all work activities comply with company safety standards, project requirements, and local legislation.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and awareness training for employees and subcontractors.
- Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify workplace hazards and conduct risk assessments.
- Monitor high-risk activities such as work at height, confined space entry, excavation, lifting operations, and hot work.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, permits, and HSE documentation.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures, fire drills, and evacuation exercises.
- Ensure first aid facilities, firefighting equipment, and emergency equipment are available and properly maintained.
- Liaise with project management, clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities on HSE matters.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with HSE requirements.
- Promote continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Typically 3–7 years of experience as a Safety Officer in construction or industrial projects.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent safety certification is highly preferred.
- OSHA certification and First Aid/CPR training are an advantage.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems is preferred.

- HSE Manager / Safety Manager
- Project Manager (as per project organization)
Working Environment
- Primarily based at construction sites.
- Requires frequent site inspections and interaction with workers, supervisors, subcontractors, and management.
- May involve working outdoors, at heights, or in challenging environmental conditions while ensuring strict compliance with HSE standards.
