Civil Engineer — Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Civil Engineer to plan, design, supervise, and manage civil engineering and construction activities. The successful candidate will ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and supervise civil engineering and construction projects.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, plans, and technical documents.
- Coordinate construction activities with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and project teams.
- Conduct site inspections and monitor construction progress.
- Ensure construction work is carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Monitor the quality of materials, workmanship, and completed works.
- Perform measurements, quantity calculations, and basic cost estimates.
- Prepare technical reports, progress reports, site records, and project documentation.
- Assist with project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control.
- Identify technical issues, construction risks, and potential delays and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, surveyors, and other technical professionals.
- Review contractor submissions, method statements, material approvals, and technical documentation.
- Monitor project progress against approved schedules and report deviations to management.
- Ensure proper implementation of health, safety, and environmental requirements on construction sites.
- Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with relevant building codes, engineering standards, and regulations.
- Support testing, commissioning, handover, snagging, and completion activities.
- Assist with project procurement and technical evaluation of materials and subcontractor work.
- Maintain accurate records of drawings, inspections, measurements, variations, and site activities.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical advice to management and project stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve construction methods, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional engineering registration/license where required.
- Relevant experience in construction, infrastructure, building projects, or engineering consultancy is preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable construction standards, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Professional certification or membership with a recognized engineering institution is an advantage.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering and construction principles.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Good knowledge of construction materials, methods, and quality-control procedures.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MS Project, Primavera P6, or other relevant engineering software is an advantage.
- Strong project coordination and site-management skills.
- Good mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
- Ability to work effectively in site-based and challenging environments.
