Safety Officer
Job Summary
We are looking for a responsible and proactive Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment and promote compliance with occupational health and safety requirements. The Safety Officer will monitor site activities, identify hazards, implement safety procedures, conduct inspections and training, and ensure that employees and subcontractors follow established safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor the company's Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions, hazards, and unsafe work practices.
- Ensure employees and subcontractors comply with safety rules, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA/JHA) for site activities.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Monitor the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure safe working practices for activities such as working at height, lifting operations, hot work, excavation, confined spaces, and electrical work.
- Monitor permits to work and ensure required safety controls are implemented before work begins.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe occurrences and prepare reports.
- Recommend and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, training records, incident reports, and other HSE documentation.
- Conduct emergency preparedness drills and ensure emergency procedures are understood by site personnel.
- Monitor housekeeping, access routes, fire prevention measures, and emergency equipment.
- Coordinate with site management, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and workers on safety matters.
- Conduct safety inductions for new employees, visitors, and subcontractors.
- Monitor safety signage, barricading, warning systems, and safe access arrangements.
- Ensure safety equipment, fire extinguishers, first-aid facilities, and emergency arrangements are properly maintained.
- Support internal and external HSE audits and inspections.
- Promote a positive safety culture and encourage employees to report hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports for management.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant HSE/Safety experience, preferably in construction or industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety procedures, risk assessment, and hazard control.
- Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
- Relevant safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is preferred.
- Good understanding of Permit to Work systems, toolbox talks, JSA/JHA, and incident investigation.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify hazards and recommend practical control measures.
- Good report-writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and remain alert in a fast-paced site environment.
