Job Description — Production Manager
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and results-oriented Production Manager to oversee the complete production operations of the organization. The candidate will be responsible for production planning, manpower management, resource utilization, quality, productivity, cost control, and timely delivery of finished products. The role requires close coordination with engineering, procurement, quality, sales, logistics, and project teams to ensure efficient and uninterrupted production.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Operations
- Plan, organize, and manage daily, weekly, and monthly production activities.
- Develop production schedules based on customer requirements, project priorities, capacity, and delivery timelines.
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining required quality standards.
- Monitor production progress and take corrective action to address delays or bottlenecks.
- Optimize the use of manpower, machinery, materials, and production capacity.
- Coordinate workflow between different production sections and ensure smooth material movement.
- Establish and monitor production priorities according to project requirements.
- Ensure proper allocation of jobs, machines, and manpower.
Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and motivate production supervisors, operators, technicians, and assistants.
- Allocate responsibilities and manpower according to production requirements.
- Monitor employee performance, productivity, attendance, and discipline.
- Identify training and skill-development requirements for production personnel.
- Conduct regular production meetings and communicate targets and priorities.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Quality & Process Control
- Ensure production activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with the QC team to maintain consistent product quality.
- Identify recurring quality problems and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Minimize rejection, rework, defects, and production wastage.
- Ensure proper inspection and testing at relevant stages of production.
- Support the implementation and improvement of SOPs, work instructions, and quality procedures.
Materials & Cost Control
- Coordinate with the Purchase and Stores teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials and consumables.
- Monitor material consumption and control production wastage.
- Ensure efficient utilization of raw materials, equipment, and labor.
- Review production costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Monitor inventory requirements and avoid unnecessary production interruptions due to material shortages.
Machinery & Maintenance
- Ensure production machinery and equipment are available and operational.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Monitor machine downtime and identify measures to improve equipment efficiency.
- Ensure operators follow correct machine operating procedures.
- Support evaluation and implementation of new machinery, equipment, and production technologies.
Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with Engineering, Design, Procurement, QC, Sales, Projects, Stores, Logistics, and Finance teams.
- Review production drawings, specifications, job cards, and work instructions.
- Monitor production status and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Track key production indicators such as output, efficiency, downtime, wastage, rejection, and on-time delivery.
- Investigate production delays and implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Participate in management meetings and provide production forecasts and operational updates.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company HSE, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
- Promote safe working practices throughout the production facility.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of machinery.
- Maintain good housekeeping and workplace organization.
- Support safety inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- 7–12 years of relevant production/manufacturing experience, including supervisory or managerial responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, manufacturing processes, and operational management.
- Proven experience managing production teams and meeting delivery targets.
- Good understanding of quality control, material management, and cost control.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP/MRP systems, and production reporting tools.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
