Accountant — Job Description
Job Summary
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. The role handles accounting transactions, reconciliations, payables and receivables, financial reporting, statutory compliance, and internal controls while ensuring accuracy and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts and financial records.
- Record daily transactions, including sales, purchases, receipts, payments, expenses, and journal entries.
- Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) activities.
- Verify invoices, bills, receipts, payment requests, and supporting documents.
- Prepare invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, journal vouchers, and other accounting documents.
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile customer, supplier, general ledger, and other relevant accounts.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and payables and follow up on overdue balances.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Prepare financial statements, schedules, reconciliations, and management reports.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of all accounting records.
- Ensure expenses and transactions are correctly allocated to accounts, departments, and cost centers.
- Maintain fixed asset records and assist with depreciation calculations.
- Assist with payroll accounting and statutory deductions where applicable.
- Support preparation and submission of applicable tax and statutory reports.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and applicable statutory requirements.
- Provide required schedules and supporting documents for internal and external audits.
- Investigate accounting discrepancies and ensure timely resolution.
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses.
- Monitor cash and bank transactions and assist with cash-flow reporting.
- Coordinate with Finance, Purchasing, Stores, Sales, Operations, and other departments regarding financial matters.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, customer, and company information.
- Support the Finance Manager/Chief Accountant with financial analysis and ad-hoc reports.
- Perform other accounting and finance duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent is an advantage.
- Typically 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in hospitality, hotel, resort, or service industries is an advantage where applicable.
- Proficiency in accounting software or ERP systems is preferred.
