Accountant — Job Description
Job Summary
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, preparing financial reports, and supporting the organization's day-to-day financial operations. The role ensures timely and accurate accounting while maintaining compliance with company policies, internal controls, and applicable statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts and financial records.
- Record daily accounting transactions, including sales, purchases, receipts, payments, expenses, and journal entries.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Prepare and process invoices, payment vouchers, receipts, and supporting documentation.
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile customer, supplier, ledger, and intercompany accounts where applicable.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and payables and follow up on pending balances.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Prepare financial statements, schedules, and management reports as required.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of accounting records.
- Verify invoices and supporting documents before processing payments.
- Monitor expenses and ensure transactions are recorded under the correct accounts and cost centers.
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses.
- Maintain fixed asset records and calculate depreciation as required.
- Assist with payroll-related accounting and statutory deductions where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax, accounting, and statutory requirements.
- Prepare information and supporting documents for internal and external audits.
- Monitor and maintain effective financial controls and procedures.
- Identify accounting discrepancies and investigate and resolve them promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Support the Finance Manager and management with financial information and ad-hoc reports.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent is an advantage.
- Typically 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience with accounting software or ERP systems is preferred.

- Good understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliation.
- Knowledge of applicable taxation and statutory requirements.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
