Detailed Job Description:
A Block/Plaster Mason is a skilled craftsperson specializing in constructing walls, partitions, and surfaces using concrete blocks, bricks, and plaster. This role is crucial for creating the structural shell and finished surfaces of buildings, requiring precision, an eye for detail, and knowledge of materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lay building materials (concrete blocks, bricks, stone) according to blueprints and specifications to construct walls, arches, and other structures.
- Mix mortar and plaster to the correct consistency and apply it to walls, ceilings, and partitions to create smooth or textured finishes.
- Set forms for pouring concrete and assist with basic concrete work as needed.
- Use levels, plumb bobs, and trowels to ensure structures are perfectly vertical, horizontal, and aligned.
- Repair existing plasterwork and masonry structures.
- Measure and cut materials to fit around obstructions or in corners.
- Supervise and guide helpers assigned to assist with material preparation and site cleanliness.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a mason, with a portfolio of completed work.
- In-depth knowledge of masonry materials, tools, and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and layouts.
- Physical strength and good hand-eye coordination.
- High school diploma or equivalent; formal apprenticeship is preferred.
