Detailed Job Description:
A Furniture Carpenter is a specialized woodworker who designs, builds, installs, and repairs custom furniture and cabinetry. This role focuses on fine woodworking, detailed joinery, and creating finished products for residential or commercial interiors, emphasizing aesthetics and functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct, install, and repair custom furniture items such as tables, chairs, cabinets, shelving, and built-in units.
- Read and interpret design sketches and blueprints to create precise pieces.
- Select appropriate lumber, veneers, and hardware for each project.
- Operate a wide range of woodworking machinery (saws, planers, routers, lathes) and hand tools safely and skillfully.
- Execute fine joinery techniques (dovetail, mortise and tenon) and apply finishes such as sanding, staining, varnishing, or painting.
- Take accurate measurements on-site for custom fittings and installations.
- Collaborate with designers, clients, and other trades to ensure the final product meets specifications and quality standards.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in fine woodworking and furniture making.
- Mastery of woodworking tools, machinery, and finishing techniques.
- Strong understanding of different wood types, grains, and properties.
- Keen attention to detail, precision, and creativity.
- Formal training in carpentry or a proven apprenticeship is highly desirable.
