Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and analytical Senior Planning Engineer to develop, manage, and maintain comprehensive project schedules for major infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for translating project scope into a logical sequence of activities, monitoring progress, identifying potential delays, and providing critical forecasting to ensure projects are delivered on time. Your expertise in scheduling software and methodology will be crucial in supporting project decision-making and reporting to senior management and clients.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed baseline and current schedules using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project, ensuring alignment with project scope, contract requirements, and resource availability.
- Perform critical path analysis and schedule risk analysis (SRA) to identify potential bottlenecks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Prepare and present detailed weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports, including schedule performance analysis (SPI), variance explanations, and forecasted completion dates.
- Work closely with project managers, construction managers, and engineering leads to incorporate all project phases (design, procurement, construction, testing & commissioning) into an integrated master schedule.
- Evaluate the impact of change orders, variations, and unforeseen events on the project timeline and provide time-impact analyses.
- Develop and implement progress measurement systems (PMS) and Earned Value Management (EVM) methodologies.
- Participate in project review meetings, providing expert advice on scheduling issues and recommending recovery plans for any delays.
- Mentor and guide junior planning staff within the team.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline from a reputable university.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience specifically in project planning and scheduling.
- Industry Background: Proven experience working with both consulting and contracting companies is essential. Must understand the planning perspectives of both the client/consultant and the contractor.
- Project Exposure: Direct hands-on experience with water networks, utilities, infrastructure, or pumping station projects is highly preferred. Familiarity with the specific construction methodologies and sequencing of such projects is a key advantage.
- Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6 is mandatory. Strong skills in MS Project, MS Office Suite, and reporting tools are required.
