Job Summary:
We are seeking a commercially astute and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to manage all financial and contractual aspects of large-scale infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for ensuring the project’s financial health, from accurate cost forecasting and change management to final account settlement. Your role is critical in protecting the company’s commercial interests, mitigating risks, and maximizing value.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for all project phases.
- Manage the entire contract lifecycle, including administration of FIDIC or similar standard construction contracts.
- Handle the valuation and certification of interim payment applications (IPCs) from subcontractors and prepare IPCs for submission to the client.
- Identify, evaluate, price, and negotiate change orders and variations, ensuring all are properly claimed and agreed upon in accordance with the contract.
- Conduct detailed cost monitoring and reporting, comparing actual expenditures against budget and explaining variances.
- Perform risk and value management exercises to identify commercial opportunities and mitigate potential losses.
- Manage subcontractor accounts, from procurement and tender analysis through to final measurement and agreement of final accounts.
- Lead the preparation and negotiation of the project’s final account with the client to achieve a timely and profitable settlement.
- Provide commercial advice and support to the project management team.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management from a reputable university. A professional membership (RICS, CIOB, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience in a quantity surveying/commercial role on large construction projects.
- Industry Background: Proven experience working for both consulting and contracting companies is essential. This ensures a balanced understanding of client-side cost control and contractor-side commercial management.
- Project Exposure: Strong background in water, utilities, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects is highly preferred. Experience with lump-sum and unit-rate contracts for such projects is crucial.
