Job Title: Sushi Chef
Job Summary:
The Sushi Chef is responsible for preparing high-quality sushi and Japanese dishes while ensuring excellent presentation, taste, and food safety standards. The role requires expertise in sushi preparation techniques, ingredient selection, and maintaining kitchen hygiene.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Cooking:
- Prepare a variety of sushi items including nigiri, maki, sashimi, and specialty rolls
- Select and prepare fresh fish, seafood, and other ingredients
- Maintain proper sushi rice preparation and seasoning techniques
- Create visually appealing presentations according to restaurant standards
- Develop new sushi recipes and menu items (if required)
Kitchen Operations:
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the sushi station
- Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering supplies
- Check freshness and quality of ingredients daily
- Maintain proper storage of seafood and perishable items
Food Safety & Hygiene:
- Follow strict food safety and hygiene regulations
- Ensure proper handling of raw fish and seafood
- Maintain sanitation standards in compliance with health regulations
Customer Service:
- Interact with customers when required (especially in open sushi bars)
- Provide recommendations and explain menu items
- Ensure customer satisfaction through quality and presentation
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or similar role
- Strong knowledge of sushi preparation techniques and Japanese cuisine
- Ability to handle raw fish safely and hygienically
- Good knife skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
