Job Title: Midwife
Job Summary
A Midwife provides care and support to women during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The role focuses on ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and newborn, promoting safe delivery practices, and offering emotional and educational support throughout the maternity journey.
Key Responsibilities
Antenatal (Pregnancy) Care
- Monitor the health of pregnant women and unborn babies
- Conduct routine check-ups, screenings, and assessments
- Provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, and birth planning
- Identify high-risk pregnancies and refer to specialists when necessary
Labor & Delivery Care
- Assist and manage normal vaginal deliveries
- Monitor fetal heart rate and maternal condition during labor
- Provide pain management support and emotional reassurance
- Recognize complications and escalate to obstetricians when required
Postnatal Care
- Provide care to mother and newborn after delivery
- Support breastfeeding and newborn care practices
- Monitor recovery and detect any postnatal complications
- Educate parents on infant care and maternal health
General Duties
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Ensure compliance with healthcare protocols and safety standards
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and healthcare teams
- Provide counseling on family planning and reproductive health
- Participate in health education and awareness programs
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or Nursing with midwifery specialization
- Valid license from relevant authority (e.g., Indian Nursing Council or equivalent in other countries)
- Registration as a certified Midwife
