Job Summary
An Orthopedic Surgeon is a medical specialist who diagnoses, treats, and performs surgical and non-surgical management of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. They help restore mobility, relieve pain, and correct deformities or injuries.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and diagnose musculoskeletal conditions and injuries
- Treat conditions such as:
- Fractures and dislocations
- Arthritis and joint disorders
- Sports injuries
- Spinal disorders
- Perform surgical procedures, including:
- Joint replacement (hip, knee, shoulder)
- Fracture fixation (internal/external)
- Arthroscopy
- Spine surgeries (when specialized)
- Provide non-surgical treatments such as:
- Casting and splinting
- Medication and pain management
- Physiotherapy recommendations
- Interpret imaging studies like X-rays, CT scans, and MRI
- Develop individualized rehabilitation plans
- Monitor recovery and long-term patient outcomes
- Collaborate with physiotherapists, radiologists, and other specialists
Required Qualifications
- MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery)
- MS/DNB in Orthopedics (or equivalent specialization)
- Additional fellowship training (optional but preferred in sub-specialties)
- Valid medical license
