Job Title: Head of Department (HOD) / Coordinator – Arabic Language
Job Summary:
The HOD / Coordinator – Arabic Language is responsible for leading and managing the Arabic department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning. The role includes curriculum planning, teacher supervision, academic monitoring, and promoting excellence in Arabic language education in alignment with school and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Academic Leadership
- Lead and manage the Arabic Language Department
- Set academic goals and ensure curriculum standards are met
- Monitor teaching quality and student outcomes
- Ensure alignment with national/international curriculum requirements
2. Curriculum Planning & Development
- Design and review Arabic curriculum, lesson plans, and schemes of work
- Ensure progression and continuity across grade levels
- Integrate innovative teaching strategies and technology
3. Teacher Supervision & Support
- Observe classes and provide constructive feedback
- Mentor and support Arabic teachers for professional growth
- Conduct regular departmental meetings and training sessions
- Assist in recruitment and onboarding of Arabic teaching staff
4. Student Performance Monitoring
- Analyze student assessment data and academic results
- Implement intervention strategies for underperforming students
- Ensure consistency in assessment and grading standards
5. Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare departmental reports and documentation
- Maintain records of curriculum, assessments, and performance
- Coordinate examination schedules and moderation processes
6. Communication & Coordination
- Act as a link between school management and Arabic teachers
- Communicate with parents regarding academic concerns (when required)
- Collaborate with other departments for interdisciplinary learning
7. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with educational authorities (e.g., MOE, KHDA if in UAE)
- Prepare for inspections and academic audits
- Implement school policies and continuous improvement plans
8. Co-curricular & Cultural Activities
- Promote Arabic language through events, competitions, and activities
- Organize cultural programs related to Arabic heritage
- Encourage student participation in language enrichment programs
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Arabic Language or related field
- Teaching qualification/certification
- Significant teaching experience in Arabic (5+ years preferred)
- Prior leadership or coordination experience preferred
