Job Title: English Teacher (IGCSE – Experienced)
Job Summary:
The English Teacher (IGCSE) is responsible for delivering high-quality English Language and/or English Literature instruction to secondary students preparing for Cambridge IGCSE examinations. The role focuses on developing students’ reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills while ensuring strong exam performance in line with Cambridge curriculum standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching & Instruction
- Teach English Language and/or Literature to IGCSE students following the Cambridge curriculum
- Develop students’ skills in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and critical analysis
- Teach literary texts including prose, poetry, and drama (as per syllabus)
- Encourage effective communication, creativity, and analytical thinking
2. Curriculum Planning
- Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, and teaching resources aligned with IGCSE syllabus
- Ensure full and structured coverage of curriculum content
- Integrate modern teaching strategies, ICT tools, and interactive learning activities
3. Assessment & Exam Preparation
- Design and evaluate assignments, essays, tests, and mock examinations
- Prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE examinations (Paper 1, Paper 2, and coursework where applicable)
- Provide detailed feedback to improve student performance
- Conduct revision sessions and exam-focused practice
4. Student Skill Development
- Improve students’ writing structure, grammar accuracy, and vocabulary usage
- Develop critical thinking and textual analysis skills
- Encourage reading habits and appreciation of literature
5. Classroom Management
- Maintain a disciplined, engaging, and supportive classroom environment
- Promote active participation and student discussion
- Manage classroom time and learning resources effectively
6. Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events
- Collaborate with English department staff and school leadership
7. Professional Responsibilities
- Stay updated with Cambridge IGCSE syllabus updates and assessment criteria
- Participate in training, workshops, and professional development programs
- Contribute to departmental planning and school improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Language, English Literature, or related field
- Recognized teaching qualification (B.Ed or equivalent preferred)
- Proven experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE English
- Strong understanding of IGCSE marking schemes and exam requirements
