Job Title: Career Guidance Counsellor
Job Summary:
The Career Guidance Counsellor is responsible for supporting students in their academic, personal, and career development. The role involves providing guidance on subject choices, higher education pathways, and career planning, while helping students make informed decisions about their future.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Career Guidance & Counselling
- Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students
- Guide students in selecting subjects based on their abilities, interests, and career goals
- Support students in exploring higher education and career options locally and internationally
2. Academic & Personal Support
- Assist students in setting academic and personal goals
- Help students develop study skills, motivation, and decision-making abilities
- Support students facing academic or emotional challenges (in coordination with school support teams)
3. Higher Education & Career Planning
- Provide information on universities, colleges, scholarships, and admission requirements
- Assist students with applications for higher education (local and international)
- Guide students in preparing CVs, personal statements, and interviews
4. Career Awareness Programs
- Organize career fairs, university visits, and guest speaker sessions
- Conduct workshops on career planning, employability skills, and future pathways
- Promote awareness of emerging career opportunities
5. Assessment & Student Profiling
- Use aptitude tests, interest inventories, and assessments to guide students
- Maintain student career profiles and counselling records
- Track student progress and post-school destinations
6. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with teachers, parents, and school leadership
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student career plans
- Coordinate with universities, training institutes, and external agencies
7. Administrative Duties
- Maintain confidential records of counselling sessions
- Prepare reports on student guidance activities and outcomes
- Support school planning for student progression pathways
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education, or related field
- Certification in Career Guidance or School Counselling preferred
- Experience in educational counselling or student advisory role preferred
