Job Title: Librarian
Job Summary:
The Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, promoting reading culture, and supporting students and staff in accessing information resources. The role involves organizing library materials, assisting users in research, and encouraging literacy and independent learning.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Library Management
- Organize, maintain, and manage all library resources (books, journals, digital media, etc.)
- Classify, catalogue, and index library materials using appropriate systems
- Ensure proper shelving, labeling, and upkeep of resources
- Maintain an orderly, quiet, and conducive library environment
2. Student & Staff Support
- Assist students and teachers in locating and using library resources
- Guide students in research, reading, and information literacy skills
- Recommend books and reading materials based on needs and interests
3. Reading Promotion
- Promote a reading culture across the school
- Organize reading programs, book fairs, storytelling sessions, and competitions
- Encourage students’ participation in library activities
4. Resource Development
- Identify and recommend new books and learning materials for purchase
- Maintain updated records of library inventory
- Support digital library systems and online resources
5. Administrative Duties
- Issue, receive, and track library books and materials
- Maintain borrowing and return records
- Prepare library usage reports and statistics
- Ensure timely repair or replacement of damaged materials
6. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with teachers to support curriculum-related reading needs
- Coordinate with school leadership for library development
- Communicate library policies and procedures to students and staff
7. ICT & Digital Literacy
- Manage digital library systems and e-resources (if applicable)
- Support students in using online databases and research tools
- Promote safe and effective use of digital information
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related field
- Diploma/Certification in Library & Information Science preferred
- Prior experience in a school library is an advantage
