Job Summary
The Cost Controller monitors project or operational costs, prepares budget reports, analyzes financial performance, and ensures expenditures remain within approved budgets. They work closely with finance, procurement, and project management teams to improve cost efficiency and support decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control project or operational budgets.
- Prepare cost forecasts, budgets, and financial reports.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted costs.
- Track expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Review purchase orders, invoices, and contracts for cost accuracy.
- Coordinate with project managers and department heads on budget matters.
- Maintain cost control systems and financial records.
- Prepare monthly cost reports and management presentations.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
- Assist in cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Communication and reporting skills
- Problem-solving ability
- Understanding of financial and accounting principles
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, or related field
- Experience in cost control, accounting, or financial analysis
- Professional certifications such as CMA, CPA, or ACCA are an advantage
Experience
- Entry Level: 1–3 years
- Mid-Level: 3–7 years
- Senior Level: 7+ years in cost control or project finance
