Head of Department (HOD) – English
Job Summary
The Head of Department (English) is responsible for leading the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching, curriculum delivery, and student achievement. The role includes academic planning, teacher supervision, assessment coordination, and continuous improvement of English language and literature instruction in alignment with school or Ministry of Education standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the English department across assigned grade levels
- Plan, implement, and monitor English curriculum delivery (language, literature, grammar, writing skills)
- Ensure high-quality teaching practices and classroom engagement
- Supervise lesson planning, teaching materials, and assessments
- Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers
- Develop and standardize question papers, exams, and grading criteria
- Monitor student performance and implement improvement strategies
- Organize reading programs, literary activities, debates, and competitions
- Support teachers through mentoring, training, and professional development
- Ensure compliance with curriculum standards (e.g., MOE, CBSE, Cambridge, etc.)
- Coordinate with school leadership on academic planning and reporting
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress when required

- Experience in CBSE / ICSE / IB / MOE curriculum is an advantage
