Position Summary
The English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English Language Arts to middle and high school students. The teacher will develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills while fostering a lifelong appreciation for literature and effective communication. The role requires creating an engaging learning environment that supports academic excellence and student growth.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English language and literature lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
- Teach reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills.
- Guide students in the analysis and interpretation of literary and non-fiction texts.
- Develop students’ critical thinking, research, and communication skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Incorporate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
- Prepare students for internal and external assessments and examinations.
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Design and administer quizzes, assignments, projects, presentations, and examinations.
- Assess and evaluate student performance using a variety of assessment methods.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and behavior.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student improvement.
- Prepare report cards and progress reports according to school policies.
Classroom Management
- Create and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Establish clear expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
- Encourage student participation, collaboration, and independent learning.
- Implement classroom management strategies in line with school policies.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to curriculum planning, development, and review.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching resources, and instructional materials.
- Align instructional practices with curriculum standards and learning objectives.
- Participate in departmental meetings and academic planning initiatives.
Student Support & Enrichment
- Identify and support students requiring additional academic assistance.
- Encourage participation in writing competitions, debates, reading programs, and literary activities.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students regarding academic development.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and performance.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school meetings.
- Address academic or behavioral concerns professionally and promptly.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings, professional development programs, and training workshops.
- Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership to improve student outcomes.
- Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and academic initiatives.
- Stay current with best practices in English language and literature instruction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
- Teaching qualification/certification preferred.
- Master's Degree in English or Education is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of teaching experience in English Language Arts.
- Experience teaching middle school and/or high school students preferred.
- Experience with international curricula (IB, British, American, CBSE, or equivalent) is an advantage.
