Position Summary
The Head of Kindergarten is responsible for providing strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the Kindergarten section of the school. The role ensures the delivery of a high-quality early childhood education program that promotes the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and language development of young learners. The Head of Kindergarten oversees curriculum implementation, staff development, student welfare, parent engagement, and the overall effectiveness of the Kindergarten department.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Lead, manage, and supervise the Kindergarten department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement strategic goals and improvement plans aligned with the school's vision and mission.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and child-centered learning environment.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional excellence.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, educational standards, and safeguarding requirements.
Academic Leadership
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Kindergarten curriculum.
- Ensure curriculum delivery is developmentally appropriate and aligned with educational frameworks and standards.
- Monitor teaching quality and student learning outcomes through regular observations and evaluations.
- Support teachers in implementing effective early childhood teaching methodologies.
- Lead curriculum development and enhancement initiatives.
Staff Supervision & Professional Development
- Recruit, mentor, support, and evaluate Kindergarten teachers and support staff.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities.
- Facilitate team meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
- Promote best practices in early childhood education.
Student Development & Welfare
- Ensure the holistic development and well-being of all Kindergarten students.
- Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies when necessary.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Oversee behavior management practices consistent with child development principles.
- Ensure appropriate support for students with diverse learning needs.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with parents and guardians.

- Promote family involvement in the educational process.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements, educational regulations, and school standards.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and departmental documentation.
- Monitor health, safety, and safeguarding practices within the Kindergarten section.
- Participate in inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Oversee daily Kindergarten operations and schedules.
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, and learning materials.
- Coordinate admissions assessments and student placement processes when required.
- Prepare reports and presentations for school leadership.
- Ensure efficient allocation and utilization of staff and resources.
School Leadership Contribution
- Serve as a member of the school's leadership team.
- Contribute to whole-school planning, policy development, and strategic initiatives.
- Support school events, celebrations, and community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with other department heads to ensure educational continuity and excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field.
- Master's Degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
- Valid teaching qualification or educational leadership certification.
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of teaching experience in Early Years/Kindergarten education.
- Minimum 2–3 years of leadership experience as a Kindergarten Coordinator, Early Years Leader, or similar role.
- Experience with international curricula such as EYFS, IB PYP, British, American, or equivalent frameworks is preferred.
