Position Summary
The Homeroom Teacher (KG1/KG2) is responsible for creating a nurturing, safe, and stimulating learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of young learners. The teacher will plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons, foster positive relationships with students and parents, and promote a love for learning through play-based and child-centered educational practices.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the school’s early years curriculum.
- Implement developmentally appropriate teaching strategies and learning activities.
- Foster language, literacy, numeracy, social, emotional, and motor skill development.
- Use play-based, inquiry-based, and hands-on learning approaches to support student growth.
- Encourage creativity, curiosity, independence, and positive learning behaviors.
- Integrate technology and educational resources to enhance learning experiences.
Classroom Management
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Establish classroom routines and behavior expectations suitable for young children.
- Monitor student well-being and ensure a positive learning atmosphere.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, and other school events.
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Observe, assess, and document students’ academic and developmental progress.
- Maintain accurate student records, portfolios, and assessment data.
- Identify individual learning needs and provide appropriate support and intervention.
- Prepare progress reports and communicate student achievements and areas for development.
Parent Communication
- Build positive partnerships with parents and guardians.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and regular progress meetings.
- Communicate effectively regarding student development, behavior, and classroom activities.
- Respond professionally to parent inquiries and concerns.
Curriculum & Planning
- Prepare weekly and monthly lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards.
- Develop engaging learning materials and classroom resources.
- Participate in curriculum planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and support student success.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.
- Participate in school events, assemblies, celebrations, and extracurricular activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies and professional standards.
- Contribute positively to the school community and culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field.
- Teaching qualification/certification in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Montessori, EYFS, Reggio Emilia, or equivalent early years training is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of teaching experience in Kindergarten or Early Years education.
- Experience teaching KG1 and/or KG2 students is preferred.
- Experience with international curricula (EYFS, IB PYP, British, American, or equivalent) is an advantage.
