Position Title: Steel Structure Design Engineer & Estimator
Job Summary:
The Steel Structure Design Engineer & Estimator is responsible for designing steel structures and preparing accurate cost estimates for fabrication and construction projects. The role involves structural analysis, preparation of design calculations and drawings, quantity take-offs, cost estimation, tender preparation, and coordination with clients, consultants, and project teams to ensure technically sound and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze steel structures in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Prepare structural calculations, design reports, and engineering documentation.
- Develop and review fabrication and erection drawings for steel structures.
- Perform quantity take-offs for structural steel materials, connections, and accessories.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, fabrication, labor, transportation, and erection costs.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and tender documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare tender submissions, bid proposals, and commercial cost breakdowns.
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, project managers, and fabrication teams.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
- Conduct value engineering studies to optimize project costs and improve efficiency.
- Support procurement and project execution teams with technical and commercial information.
- Attend client meetings, site visits, and technical discussions as required.
- Maintain estimation databases, design records, and project documentation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in steel structure design, estimation, fabrication, or construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel design codes and standards.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, Tekla Structures, or similar tools.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, and steel erection practices.
