Job Summary
The Sous Chef supports the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, ensuring consistent food quality, efficient service, and adherence to culinary standards. The role involves supervising kitchen staff, assisting with menu preparation, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring smooth kitchen performance in a high-end dining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations.
- Supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff to maintain high performance standards.
- Ensure food preparation and presentation meet restaurant quality standards.
- Monitor cooking processes and maintain consistency in taste, quality, and portion control.
- Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and seasonal specials.
- Coordinate kitchen activities during service to ensure timely food delivery.
- Manage assigned kitchen sections and support chefs during busy operations.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.
- Assist with inventory control, ordering, and stock rotation.
- Monitor food costs and help reduce waste.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations.
- Support staff scheduling and daily kitchen briefings.
- Act as the Head Chef in their absence when required.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Culinary Arts or a related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of professional kitchen experience, including experience as a Sous Chef or Chef de Partie.
- Experience in fine dining, luxury restaurants, or premium hospitality is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen operations.
- Experience managing and training kitchen teams.
