Job Description – Senior Utilities Engineer (Facilities Management)
A Senior Utilities Engineer (FM) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing utility systems within large facilities to ensure reliable operation, efficiency, safety, and compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise utility operations and maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance plans for utility systems.
- Monitor performance and reliability of building utility infrastructure.
- Lead technical teams and coordinate with supervisors, technicians, and contractors.
- Troubleshoot complex utility system issues and provide engineering solutions.
- Manage systems including:
- Water supply and distribution systems
- Sewage and drainage systems
- Pumping systems
- Electrical utility systems (as applicable)
- Chilled water systems
- District cooling interfaces
- Fire water systems
- Other facility utility networks
- Review maintenance schedules, work orders, and technical reports.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with clients, authorities, and service providers.
- Monitor energy and water consumption and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support utility upgrade projects, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Prepare technical reports, KPIs, and operational performance reviews.
- Manage spare parts, resources, and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with FM contracts and service level agreements (SLAs).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 12+ years of experience in Facilities Management (FM) or utility operations.
- Experience managing large-scale utility systems and infrastructure.
- UPDA certification is preferred (for Qatar-based roles).
- Experience in Qatar/GCC FM projects is an advantage.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of utility systems and facility operations.
- Excellent troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
- Experience leading engineering and maintenance teams.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance and asset management.
- Ability to review technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong reporting, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Good communication and client management abilities.
- Knowledge of HSE standards and regulatory requirements.
